Sterling Sharp
25-Year-Old PitcherRP
Washington Nationals AAA
2020 Fantasy Outlook
Armed with a quality low-90s sinker, Sharp's 64.7 GB% ranked third among all minor-league starters in full-season ball who threw at least 50 innings. That ability to generate weak contact will be his ticket to a big-league career. He also has a quality changeup and is working on a third-pitch breaking ball. The athletic 6-foot-3 righty projects to have at least average control, so if his secondary offerings continue to improve, there is more upside than meets the eye. He was sent to the Arizona Fall League to make up for the time he missed with an oblique injury and impressed with a 3.28 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 24 strikeouts in 24.2 innings. The Nationals surprisingly opted not to add him to the 40-man roster this offseason, and the Marlins scooped him up in the Rule 5 draft. He should work primarily out of the bullpen before potentially heading to Triple-A in 2021 to complete his development as a starter. Read Past Outlooks

Returned to Nationals
PWashington Nationals  AAA
August 28, 2020
Sharp was returned to the Nationals on Friday, Andersen Pickard of MLBDailyDish.com reports.
ANALYSIS
He was a top pick in the 2019 Rule 5 draft by the Marlins, but they opted to cut bait by designating him for assignment earlier this week and he went unclaimed. Sharp has some long-term potential as a No. 4 or No. 5 starter, but he had only made nine starts at Double-A and zero starts at Triple-A prior this season, so it's not a surprise he struggled (10.13 ERA) in a brief run in the Marlins' bullpen. According to Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post, he was added to the Nationals' 60-player pool, and the organization will likely continue to develop him as a starter.
