A fourth-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft out of the University of Memphis, Goodman tore his way through the Rockies' minor-league system, posting a combined .924 OPS with 72 home runs and 229 RBI in 263 games between Low-A Fresno, High-A Spokane, Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque. Many of those affiliates play in hitter-friendly ballparks and Goodman mostly struggled in his first taste of MLB action down the stretch in 2023, but to gloss over what he did on the farm seems foolish given that he'll have the pleasure of taking half of his big-league at-bats within the confines of Coors Field. The 24-year-old appears poised to be a regular presence in the Colorado lineup out of the gate in 2024 and has the feel of a sneaky breakout candidate in his first full major-league campaign. Goodman went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run Thursday in a 10-9 victory versus San Diego.

ANALYSIS
Goodman's eighth-inning, three-run blast was enormous not only in terms of distance (it traveled an estimated 448 feet) but also in terms of impact, as it brought the Rockies to within two runs in what was to become a successful late comeback. The homer was Goodman's first hit in six at-bats since being promoted from Triple-A on Wednesday. The 2021 fourth-round draft pick had seven long balls through 91 plate appearances in the minors prior to the call-up and knocked 34 home runs over 106 minor-league contests last year, so his potential for big-league power is intriguing, especially given his home field.

The speed of the baseball as it comes off the bat, immediately after a batter makes contact.
Hard Hit Rate
A measure of contact quality from Sports Info Solutions. This stat explains what percentage of batted balls were hit hard vs. medium or soft.
Barrels/PA
The percentage of plate appearances where a batter had a batted ball classified as a Barrel. A Barrel is a batted ball with similar exit velocity and launch angle to past ones that led to a minimum .500 batting average and 1.500 slugging percentage.
